Colne crashed out of the NWCL Macron Cup to a resounding defeat at Fulwood Amateurs on Saturday. The Reds struggled to come to terms with the home side's physical energetic style and made little impression on the scoreline.

Colne fell behind after just three minutes when Will Sim raced clear on the left wing and his low cross found Owen Watkinson at the far side of the area who finished with a low shot into the bottom corner of the Reds net.

Colne appeared to put the setback behind them and competed well in the next 20 minutes. And Jamie Walker's run into the home area promised an equaliser but his shot was blocked for a corner and Ben Horne's high cross was taken off Corey Stacey's head by home keeper Jacob Barry. After 16 minutes, Luke Stowe was brought down on a good run just outside the home area but Horne's well struck free kick was deflected off the defensive wall.

But after 24 minutes, Colne lost the ball in midfield and Spencer Lucas raced clear and chipped the ball over Colne keeper Harry Turner to double Fulwood's lead. Fulwood were lifted by the goal and the Reds needed to defend a period of pressure by the home side. And Turner raced from his area to clear the ball as Lucas chased a high ball over the top.

With half time approaching, Fulwood went further ahead when a long throw into the Colne area was knocked on by Watkinson for Sim to fire home a low shot at the far post.

As the second half began, Colne looked to reduce the deficit as a cross was knocked down by Miles Storey on the edge of the area for Harry Lynn who saw his shot pushed away by the keeper with a good save. And in a subsequent attack, Horne's cross to the far post was headed back across goal and just wide of the post by Saul Guffogg.

But on the hour, Fulwood went four goals up when a cross from the right wing found Sim in the Colne area and he fired home. After 65 minutes, Fulwood keeper Barry was sin-binned reducing his team to ten men and with a substitute keeper in goal but the Reds failed to take advantage of their extra man.

After 75 minutes, Dan Jackson released Horne on a good run and his cross was cleared from the six yard box by home defenders. And as Colne looked for a consolation goal, Barney Wiggin's cross gave Horne sight of goal but his powerful shot flew just wide of the post.

And as the game went into added time, Finlay Wallbank provided a low cross into the Colne goalmouth where Sim fired home to complete his hat trick and a scoreline of 5-0 for Fulwood.
