Six of the Best as Colne Ladies Storm Through in Adobe Women’s FA Cup

Colne FC Ladies booked their place in the First Qualifying Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, hitting six past competition debutants St Michaels in Widnes.

A superb four-goal haul from Bethany Bancroft and a brace from Liv Sellars secured a commanding 6–0 victory for the Reds and ensured their journey in the competition continues.

Colne made the trip to Widnes looking to make a strong start in the FA Cup and delivered exactly that, producing a ruthless attacking performance while keeping a clean sheet at the other end.

Bancroft enjoyed a memorable afternoon in front of goal, finding the net four times, while Sellars struck twice to complete an excellent day's work for the Reds.

Woolton await in the next round

Colne's reward is an away tie against Woolton in the First Qualifying Round on Sunday 6 September – and their next opponents also produced a huge performance to progress.

Woolton swept aside Blackburn Eagles with a remarkable 10–0 victory, setting up what promises to be a fascinating cup tie next month.

With Colne scoring six and Woolton hitting ten, the two sides found the net 16 times between them on Sunday, suggesting there could be plenty of attacking quality on show when they meet in the next round.

Penwortham fixture to be rearranged.

Colne's progress in the competition means their scheduled home fixture against Penwortham Ladies on Sunday 6 September will now be rearranged.

The Reds will instead make the trip to Woolton for their FA Cup tie, with details of a new date for the Penwortham fixture to be announced once confirmed.

Final pre-season outing on Wednesday

Before attention turns to the start of the league campaign, Colne Ladies have one final pre-season fixture to come.

The Reds welcome Wilmslow Albion to the DM Pies Stadium on Wednesday evening for their final warm-up game of the summer.

It will provide another valuable opportunity for the squad to get minutes under their belts and continue building momentum ahead of the new season.

For now, though, Colne can reflect on an excellent afternoon in Widnes – six goals, a clean sheet and a place in the next round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
